It was just a few months ago that the Mexican DJ/producer released Aluxes, his first EP on Lumière Noire.

That record's four astounding tracks (complete with a Tolouse Low Trax remix) further refined the producer’s approach to dark disco: off-kilter and bordering on the iconoclastic, but always dancefloor oriented. At the same time, the Jalisco native demonstrated how one can very much stand out on the worldwide electronic music scene while remaining faithful to one’s roots, infusing the EP’s hypnotic mid-tempo grooves with haunting incantations to Mayan deities – and other mischievous mythological creatures.

In keeping with Chloé’s A&R policy, Xu Xu’s two tracks and two remixes continue in the same vein, indulging in off-beat signatures and innovative electronic flourishes, taking the listener on a languid tour of a dense, luxuriant jungle – as if floating on a raft of mysterious percussion and hallucinated voices.

Just like on Vontier’s previous effort, the listener is left with the impression of being slowly taken over by a spell, sinking into a ritual trance prompted by the bewitching chants of Tel Aviv’s Xen (a vocalist who runs in the same circles as Red Axes).

Vontier doubles down on the electronic hexes with a version of the title track (Otra Version) giving the bold mystical invocation a slightly rougher edge.

The track also gets the remix treatment from the incredible Roman Flügel (a pioneer of labels Playhouse, Dial and Klang), who has recently put his stamp on tracks by Daniel Avery and C.A.R.

The EP concludes with a second original track, Chiquitita On Acid, with its alternately tuned keyboards (a Vontier signature) and whispered vocals that place the listener at the crossroads of universes, between dawn and dusk, resulting in a lascivious dancefloor groove that is equal parts haunting and hedonistic.

Just like Xu Xu, Chiquitita’s original version will be part of Iñigo Vontier’s debut album (coming to Lumière Noire sometime in the next few months), a full-length that will build upon the young artist’s strengths, bringing his many facets to light.
